Connect Your Website

Before SEOmatic can publish pages to your website, you need to connect it to the platform your site runs on (WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, etc.). This gives SEOmatic the ability to publish pages to your site later - when you're ready.

What you'll need

To connect, you'll typically need two things:

  1. Your website URL - the address people visit (e.g., https://yourcompany.com)

  2. An API key or credentials - this is what lets SEOmatic securely access your site. Each platform calls it something different (API key, application password, access token, etc.)

Not sure where to find your API key? Don't worry - we have a step-by-step guide for each platform that shows you exactly where to go and what to copy. See the list below.

Platform guides

Each CMS has a different setup process. Pick yours for detailed instructions:

Don't see your platform? Contact us and we'll help you get set up.

How do I know it worked?

You'll see a green dot next to your workspace name in the sidebar. That means SEOmatic is connected to your site and you're ready to go.

Common questions

Question

Answer

"My team already connected. Do I need to do this?"

No. If someone on your team already connected the website, you're all set. Everyone in the same workspace shares the same connection.

"Can my developer do this for me?"

Yes. If you don't have access to your website's admin panel, ask your web developer to set up the connection. It only takes a few minutes.

"I don't know what platform my website uses."

Ask the person who built or manages your website. You can also check: if you log in at yoursite.com/wp-admin, it's WordPress. If you manage it through webflow.com, it's Webflow. Still unsure? Contact us and we'll help you figure it out.

"What's an API key? Is it safe?"

An API key is like a special password that only lets SEOmatic create and update pages on your site. It's not your login password. SEOmatic stores it securely and encrypted. Each platform guide explains how to create one.

"Will this change anything on my website?

No. Connecting only gives SEOmatic access to your site. Nothing on your website is modified until you explicitly publish pages later.

"I manage multiple websites."

Each workspace connects to one website. If you have 3 websites, create 3 workspaces. You can switch between them in the sidebar.

"I connected but the green dot disappeared."

Your API key may have expired or been revoked. Go to Connections in the sidebar, check the error, and reconnect.
