Meta tags control how your pages appear in search engine results. SEOmatic includes two meta fields - Meta Title and Meta Description - that are published directly to your CMS.
Quick Example
Meta Title:
{{ Service }} in {{ City }} | {{ Brand }}Meta Description:
Looking for {{ Service }} in {{ City }}? [Discover|Explore|Find] our [top-rated|trusted|professional] services. Contact us today. Each page gets a unique meta title and description based on your dataset, with spin syntax adding natural variation.
Syntax
Both fields support Dynamic Variables and Spin Syntax as other SEOmatic fields.
Meta Title is a single-line field with a 60-character limit. Meta Description is a multiline field with a 160-character limit. A character counter appears as you type - it turns from green to orange to red as you approach the limit.
How to Use Meta Tags
Meta Title and Meta Description appear under the Meta section in your field editor. Type your text directly, and use {{ }} to insert variables from your dataset.
The character counter updates in real time, including the estimated length after variables are replaced. Stay within the limits - search engines may cut off titles and descriptions that are too long.
When you publish, SEOmatic sends your meta tags to the CMS automatically. On WordPress for example, meta values are written to all major SEO plugins at once - Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, and SEOPress - so it works regardless of which plugin you use.
Tips
Keep meta titles under 60 characters and meta descriptions under 160 characters. Google truncates anything longer.
Put your most important keyword near the beginning of the meta title.
Each page should have a unique meta title and description. Dynamic Variables and Spin Syntax make this easy at scale.
